Hundreds of people took part in our Relationship Recognition Survey
in the fall of 2006. We received much information from the responses to
our survey questions.
While we are still reviewing and synthesizing all of the survey
answers, we wanted to share some initial results with our community.
Legal Protections for Same-Sex Couples
- 63% of respondents had not completed a will. Find out more about

Legal Status for Same-Sex Couples
- 38% of respondents strongly felt that
marriage was necessary, and
that a civil union alternative was inadequate.
- 39% of respondents believed that civil unions were an acceptable
alternative to marriage
- 56% of respondents disagreed with the statement that an
alternative legal status
was actually preferable to marriage
- 60% of respondents disagreed that discussing legal status for
same-sex couples was a distraction from more pressing issues
- 50% strongly disagreed with the statement that no status was
needed if the individual
rights of marriage are available in other ways
- 86% agreed that if marriage became available to same-sex
couples, they would eventually like to marry
