Soon to be ordained as a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Javen Swanson's passion for justice is motivated by his faith. His belief in the inherent dignity of every person teaches him to challenge man-made systems that perpetuate oppression.
Javen's work for marriage equality began in 2008 as a seminarian in Connecticut, where he and his fiancé became involved with that state's LGBT movement. Marriage equality came to Connecticut later that year and the two were married in the seminary chapel in the spring of 2009. You can read more of their story here.
Born and raised in Minnesota, Javen is excited to be back in his home state working to defeat the anti-marriage constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot in November 2012. He will be working primarily among communities of faith, equipping religious people to speak out for a more fair and loving Minnesota.
