Anti Marriage Bills in the Minnesota Legislature

In the 2007-2008 legislative session, there were six anti-marriage bills (3 in the House, 3 in the Senate), all with substantatively similar language.

House authors:
Emmer, Erickson, Olson, Gottwalt, Dettmer, Westrom, Peppin, Severson, Hamilton

Senate authors:
Limmer, Hann, Gimse, Pariseau, Hann, Jungbauer, Vandeveer, Neuville, Ingebrigtsen, Koch, Gerlach

None of these bills received a hearing.

The bills were substantially similar in wording. Here's the text of one of them - H.F. 1846:

"A bill for an proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution by adding a section to article XIII; recognizing as marriage or its legal equivalent only a union between one man and one woman.

An amendment to the Minnesota  Constitution is proposed to the people. If the amendment is adopted, a section shall be added to article XIII, to read: Sec. 13. Only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in Minnesota. Any other relationship shall not be recognized as a marriage or its legal equivalent by the state or any of its political subdivisions."
