Anti-Violence Program Coordinator cheré bergeron

By cheré’s calm demeanor, you would never know how much they have going on! When not working at OutFront, cheré can be found attending school at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis where they are concluding a 230-hour yoga teacher training program. Or volunteering for Family Tree Clinic or the Minnesota Transgender Health Clinic, providing hormone injections for folks who are transitioning. Or working as a host at The Lynn on Bryant. Or studying for their Birth Doula Certification. We wonder when does cheré sleep?

Before joining the Anti-Violence Program (AVP) staff at OutFront almost two years ago, cheré was a bilingual family advocate at Casa de Esperanza.

In college, they worked as a sexual assault survivor advocate while majoring in Women’s Studies and International Studies at the University of Minnesota Duluth. cheré also minored in Political Science and Spanish.

One of chere’s responsibilities as OutFront’s AVP Coordinator is co-facilitating the advocate training program, which begins next month. (See story below.) On behalf of OutFront, cheré also works at Bridges to Safety, located in the Ramsey County Government Center. They provide support and services to victims/survivors of intimate partner violence by getting Orders for Protections and offering assistance related to the often confusing and overwhelming court systems

When asked “Why do you write your name with all lower case letters?” cheré replied “because I liked bell hooks' reasoning: she prefers to spell it in all lowercase letters to focus attention on her message rather than herself. It’s also more aesthetically pleasing to me.”
