Dr. Michael Douglas

Dr. Douglas is a physician, chief clinician, and director of long term care delivery for Minnesota State Operated Forensic Services, an agency of the Minnesota Department of Human Services. He directs healthcare for the state's appropriately institutionalized and committed mentally ill elderly patients. His training is in the specialty of family practice and the subspecialty of geriatric medicine. He has previously served as medical director for the state's only school for the training and certification of physician assistants, Augsburg College. In addition, he has held community medical academic posts and instructed medical students and residents via the Department of Family Practice within the University of Minnesota Medical School.

He is an avid follower and developer of healthcare policy for this patient population, having obtained an MBA in healthcare administration from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. He also runs a healthcare policy and interest blog.

Dr. Douglas has lived happily with his partner, David McCaffrey, a retired University of Minnesota researcher in the Department of Family Practice, for over ten years. They live in St. Paul.
