Position: Development and Events Intern

Reports To: Development Director

Hours: 10+ hours/week

Salary: Unpaid

 

Organization Description

OutFront Minnesota is the premier organization advocating for and serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Minnesotans. OutFront Minnesota's mission is to create a state where LGBTQ people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment, or discrimination. We are leading Minnesota toward LGBTQ equity through a combination of public policy, legal and individual advocacy, and education.

 

Summary

We’re looking for a motivated critical thinker to join OutFront Minnesota’s engaging and passionate team as a Development and Events Intern to support the core of our critical work for LGBTQ equity. The intern will learn about the inner workings of a non-profit organization, gain experience working on a development team, build concrete fundraising skills, and produce results that make a real difference for LGBTQ equity.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Solicit in-kind donations from local businesses for various OutFront events, including the Gala

  • Complete donor appreciation and data entry projects

 

Gala Silent Auction

  • Reach out to businesses through email, phone, and/or in person to ask for in-kind donations

  • Communicate OutFront’s mission and Gala details to businesses

  • Coordinate pick-up or delivery of silent auction items

  • Utilize item-tracking spreadsheet to document outreach and item values

  • Prepare and coordinate silent auction materials and logistics the day of the event

  • Coordinate pick-up or delivery of any items not claimed at the event

  • Assist with tracking and acknowledgement of donations post event

 

Donor Appreciation

  • Write and address handwritten thank you notes to OutFront supporters

  • Use donor management database to update donor information

 

Data Entry

  • Use online form to database petitions to ban conversion therapy in Minnesota

 

Other

  • Assist with administrative duties

  • Staff events

  • Other tasks assigned as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Motivated to work for LGBTQ equity

  • Commitment and ability to work well within the LGBTQ and allied communities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills

  • Attention to details

  • Strong desire to learn along with professional drive

  • Efficiency at MS Office

  • Able to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality when working with donor information

  • Willing to take ownership of projects and work independently
