On September 11, 2020, OutFront Minnesota released A Letter to Our Community on Accountability and Our Future as an Anti-Racist Queer Organization on our social media pages, website and to our email list. This letter was a response to the demands of our community members that we 1) explicitly address the ways in which we have upheld white supremacy both internally and externally, 2) condemn those actions, 3) establish and communicate a plan to prevent those actions from happening again.

OutFront Minnesota's mission has been to “create a state where lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination”. While we are proud of the work we have done to advance LGBTQ equity, we must acknowledge that we have fallen short, both externally and internally, in our work toward liberation--in part because OutFront Minnesota has been complicit in and continues to benefit from white supremacy.

Activists and supporters of LGBTQ rights met the morning of Aug. 8 outside of Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church to protest an all-day seminar they believed was a form of gay conversion therapy. The seminar, titled “Distinctions: Discovering Biblical clarity in a sexually-confused world,” was delivered by Outpost Ministries, a faith-based public speaking organization.
