Work Hours: Full-Time, Exempt; often including evenings and weekends. 
Compensation: $72-80K (DOQ)

Job Description 
As Director of Policy & Organizing you will lead a team of staff working to engage our community in political organizing work and advance LGBTQ+ equity in the state of Minnesota.

As part of OutFront’s leadership team the Director of Policy & Organizing will play a critical role in helping to set and advance policy objectives for the organization. The Director will build key relationships with lawmakers, community leaders, partner organizations, and coalitions to ensure the successful implementation of annual legislative and policy strategies. The Director will support the Policy & Organizing team to engage and educate voters, organize movement work, and ensure that LGBTQ+ Minnesotans have the support and tools to change their communities for the better.

OutFront Minnesota has a long history of advancing key policies that support our state’s LGBTQ+ community; including campaigns around the Minnesota Human Rights Act, marriage equality, the Safe and Supportive Schools Act, and recent efforts to ban conversion therapy in the state of Minnesota. The right candidate will continue that history, and ensure that Minnesota continues to be a leading state for LGBTQ+ legislation and policy.

The right candidate will join a dedicated, passionate staff and board who are deeply committed to making Minnesota a state that is equitable and affirming for all LGBTQ+ people. OutFront approaches our equity work from an intersectional lens - seeking to address issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community particularly the most marginalized segments of our population.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Manage OutFront Minnesota’s policy program to advance LGBTQ+ equity across the state; including identifying policy opportunities, introducing and advancing legislation, preparing testimony, direct lobbying, and supporting grassroots organizing efforts critical to securing policy wins at state and local levels. Build and maintain key relationships with elected officials, policy makers, and community organizers that are essential to advancing the priorities set in partnership with the Executive Director and the OutFront Board.  (45%)
  • Build and maintain key relationships with coalition partners and aligned organizations including supporting the PAC and ensure communication about key priorities and initiatives. (25%)
  • Supervise and support the Policy & Organizing team to meet individual and organizational goals, set and maintain departmental budgets, and support collaborative work across the organization. (20%)
  • Manage organizational strategies for voter education and engagement in and out of election year cycles. (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

  • Abide by and lead organization-wide efforts to incorporate anti-racism principles and cultural competency into all aspects of work.
  • Lead in developing and growing an anti-racist culture within the department.
  • Lead workplace and local community organizing equity and justice through open sharing of personal anti-racist ideologies and commitments. 
  • Offer consideration towards racial inequity, injustice, and historical trauma when working with BIPOC staff and leaders.

 
Candidate Requirements

  • A strong commitment to OutFront Minnesota’s mission in advancing LGBTQ+ equity through an intersectional lens.
  • 3+ years of experience in grassroots community organizing, electoral organizing, policy advocacy, labor organizing and/or related roles - with a preference for candidates with experience in organizing in LGBTQ+ equity spaces or with other marginalized communities.
  • A clear understanding of the political landscape and policy process in the state of Minnesota and the political savvy to navigate it successfully.
  • Excellent communication skills - including both written and verbal communication; and an ability to effectively explain policy and the policymaking process to constituents.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving and coalition building skills, including legislative strategy development and implementation; demonstrated success in managing volunteers, teams, and/or projects to advance policy and organizing objectives.
  • Experience with key engagement tools; ie. the VAN, EveryAction, and other key technologies and tools used in organizing.
  • A commitment to collaborative approaches to leadership and community organizing.
  • Emotional intelligence, good judgment, ability to approach the work, when appropriate, with a sense of humor and joy!
  • Access to reliable transportation, including for regular travel outside of the Twin Cities metro area.

Job Description 
As Director of Development & Communications you will lead a team of staff who support the core fundraising and communications efforts of OutFront Minnesota - ensuring that the organization has the resources and relationships necessary to carry out our mission.

As part of OutFront’s leadership team the Director of Development & Communications will play a critical role in shaping our organizational story and relationship with supporters. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will be responsible for building a development strategy to reach annual budget targets (2022 goal: $1.6MM) through coordinated efforts across the Development & Communications team. In addition to setting overall strategic direction and team management, the Director will be responsible for cultivating significant organizational donors and leading the planning and coordination of key events including OutFront’s annual gala.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and grow a shared portfolio of individual donors in partnership with the Executive Director to secure support for the organization’s mission of advancing LGBTQ+ Equity. Personally solicit individual donors for support including both current use and planned (estate) gifts. (40%)
  • Supervise and support the Development & Communications team to meet individual and organizational goals, set and maintain departmental budgets, and support collaborative work across the organization. (20%)
  • Organize and lead key organizational events including OutFront’s annual fundraising gala and other fundraising opportunities throughout the year. (15%)
  • In partnership with the Development team, manage and grow a portfolio of corporate partners and sponsors to build organizational relationships and ensure financial support. (10%)
  • Working closely with the Executive Director and Development & Communications team, develop an annual fundraising and communications plan to ensure that OutFront Minnesota has the financial resources and connections to support our mission of LGBTQ+ equity. (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

  • Experience with donor database management and related fundraising tools.
  • A commitment to collaborative approaches to leadership and community organizing.
  • Emotional intelligence, good judgment, ability to approach the work, when appropriate, with a sense of humor and joy!
