In 2014, the Minnesota State High School League approved a policy allowing transgender/gender-nonconforming students to establish their eligibility to play on the team corresponding to their lived gender.  Because students assigned female at birth can typically seek to play on either girls’ or boys’ teams, but students assigned male at birth generally may play only on boys’ teams, the policy specifically creates a path for transgender girls (who are usually assigned male at birth) to play on girls’ teams.  Read more about the policy here and a Participation Fact Sheet here.
